Question: On 12 June, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Nasser Kanaani, touching upon relations with Azerbaijan, stated that he believes that a positive result has been achieved regarding bringing tension under control as a result of diplomatic measures. We are currently at the stage of transition from a phase of tension to a new phase and at the stage of negotiations to restore the official activity of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran. We need dialogue and exchange of views in order to take new practical steps. What is the comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan regarding Kanaani’s position?

Answer: Recently, a number of contacts have been carried out between Azerbaijan and Iran. During the negotiations held between the Foreign Ministers, a detailed exchange of views was conducted on the known situation that emerged between our countries.

As for the issue of restoring the activity of our Embassy, which suspended its work as a result of the terrorist attack in January of the current year, we note that Azerbaijan expects the investigation into the terrorist attack to be completed. Those who committed and ordered the terrorist act must be brought to responsibility and punished in the strictest manner. The Azerbaijani side must be confident that conditions exist for the safe operation of the Embassy, and full guarantees must be provided in this regard.
