No:210/26, Press release on consular consultations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye

On 12 May, the next consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye were held in the city of Ankara.
At the consultations, the Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Turkish delegation was headed by Gülsun Erkul, Director General for Consular Affairs and Citizens Living Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye.
In the first part of the consultations, an exchange of views was conducted on the current situation of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the consular field, including the development of the treaty-legal framework in this field, the protection of the rights and freedoms of the citizens of the two states, the provision of necessary consular assistance to them, and the expansion of relations in the fields of justice, including legal assistance, labor and social protection.
The second part of the consultations was headed on behalf of the Turkish delegation by Ambassador Esin Çakıl, Director General for Migration Policy and Visa Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye. In the second part of the negotiations, along with recent innovations implemented in the consular field, an exchange of experience was conducted on migration and visa policy, discussions were held on topics arising in the field of migration, and the Turkish side was informed about the visa and migration rules applied by the Republic of Azerbaijan within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in the city of Baku in 2024.
After the consultations, the Azerbaijani delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Directorate of Migration Management operating under the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Türkiye. The delegation held a meeting with Fatih Ayna, Head of the Department for Foreigners of the Directorate of Migration Management, thanked the other side for the support provided in various projects implemented by us with regard to citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan currently living in the Republic of Türkiye, and conducted discussions on issues of expanding cooperation.
The meetings were also attended by employees of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and, on the Turkish side, employees of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior and other relevant institutions of the Republic of Türkiye.
