No:062/23, Press release on the telephone conversation of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried

On 9 February 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and United States Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried held a telephone conversation.
The sides held detailed discussions on the current agenda of bilateral relations between the two countries, the situation in the region, and the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the protest action on the Lachin road is legitimate and that it is necessary to fulfill the demands of the persons holding the action. The absolute lack of factual evidence was noted regarding the alleged “blockade” and “difficult humanitarian situation” in the region.
Despite Azerbaijan’s proposals towards ensuring peace and stability in the region, the obstacles created by Armenia to negotiations on the peace agreement, its failure to fully withdraw its armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, its military provocations and gross violation of obligations such as continuing illegal economic activity were once again recalled.
The Minister stated that instead of allowing manipulations over the negotiation process on the peace agreement and voicing provocative statements, it is important for Armenia to sit at the negotiating table within a short period of time.
During the telephone conversation, the sides also conducted an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
