No: 105/17, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Carlo Calenda, Minister of Economic Development of Italy

At the meeting, the Ministers expressed satisfaction with the level of bilateral relationship and comprehensive cooperation in various fields between Azerbaijan and Italy. Commending high level political and economical relations between the two countries, they stressed the importance of making joint efforts to further strengthen this cooperation.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov characterized the relations between Azerbaijan and Italy as of strategic nature and added that this was also reflected in “Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Italy” signed during the official visit of H.E. Mr Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan to Italy in 2014 . He also stressed that Italy is a main trade partner of our country in the European Union and the political, economic, energy, petrochemical, transport, tourism and humanitarian cooperation is successfully developing between our countries.

Carlo Calenda mentioned that Azerbaijan is a significant economic partner for his country. He also recalled his last visit to Azerbaijan in February of this year and commended the activity of Azerbaijan-Italy Business Forum.

During the meeting the sides mentioned the successful activities of Italian companies in Azerbaijan, particularly in energy sphere and stressed the importance of taking the necessary steps for the continuation of this successful collaboration in non-oil sector, especially in the fields of agriculture, textile-garment, leather processing, construction materials production, tourism, cultural and scientific-technical areas.

At the meeting, the importance of Southern Gas Project in terms of additional gas supply was noted and stressed that Italian companies get multi-billion contracts with realization of this project.

The sides exchanged their views on the transnational transport corridors and joint efforts towards the realization of projects that will contribute to their development.
