Mayor of Rio de Janeiro signed the law on twinning of Baku and Rio de Janeiro cities
On November 6, Foreign Relations Committee of Rio de Janeiro City Council adopted a draft law on twinning of Baku and Rio de Janeiro cities.
On 3 December the mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes signed the law on twinning of Baku and Rio de Janeiro cities which came into force on 4 December.
The features that capital of Azerbaijan, Baku and Rio de Janeiro have in common, including cultural events regular taking place in Baku, dynamic life style of the city, its rich history, grandiose architecture and its admiration to the sports were particularly highlighted in the adopted law.
Baku and Rio de Janeiro, are known as one of the world cultural heritage centres and are visited by the thousands of tourists every year.
Nomination of Baku as a host city for the future important international events will provide a stimulus for further dialogue and the exchange of experience between two cities.
Twin cities diploma will be presented to Azerbaijan by Rio de Janeiro City Council soon.
