UN General Assembly adopted a resolution initiated by Azerbaijan on the establishment of Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway
On 21 December the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution initiated by Azerbaijan on the establishment of Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM).
 
The resolution was initiated by Azerbaijan with a view to supporting the implementation of TASIM project and envisages the development of relevant telecommunications infrastructure and strengthening of public and private sector cooperation in order to eliminate "digital gap" in the Eurasian region.
 
The resolution also involves the Azerbaijani Government's proposal to create the Eurasian Communication Alliance which aims at strengthening coordination among governments, private sector, civil society and international development institutes that would contribute to the enhancement of telecommunication and transit corridors in the region.
 

TASIM project received the backing of many regions and leading member states of the United Nations have decided to join the resolution as co-sponsors. The list includes the U.S, Australia, Belarus, China, Georgia, Afghanistan, India, Israel, Iraq, Canada, Korea, Kuwait, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, the Russian Federation, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Turkey, Ukraine, Japan, New Zealand and others.
