UNESCO Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict adopted a resolution calling for the protection of cultural property at territories under occupation
UNESCO Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict adopted a resolution calling for the protection of cultural property at territories under occupation during its seventh session in Paris on 21 December.

The resolution places an obligation on occupying country to produce and present reports to the Committee on the protection of cultural property at territories under occupation and envisages undertaking technical missions to territories under occupation.

According to the resolution, the Secretariat was tasked with preparing a comprehensive document on the implementation of relevant clauses of The Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and Second Protocol to the Convention.

The resolution opens up opportunities to hold broader discussions on the issue of the protection of cultural property at occupied territories of Azerbaijan and taking certain mechanisms in that respect. Despite protests by Armenia and some Committee members supporting its position, majority of the Committee members approved Azerbaijan's initiative and supported taking future measures in that direction.
